Scholarship Information
In an eighth grade paper Derek Jeter predicted his future as a shortstop for the New York Yankees. Although many young people dream of being sports stars, there were few that doubted it would be a dream come true for Jeter.
He worked to make his dream of becoming a professional athlete a reality by playing Little League, on a summer all-star team, and his high school baseball team at Kalamazoo Central High School.
As a professional athlete, Jeter's concern for youth led to the establishment of the Turn 2 Foundation, which supports signature programs and activities that motivate young people to turn away from drugs and alcohol and "Turn 2" healthy lifestyles.
In addition, in 1997, Turn 2 established at the Kalamazoo Community Foundation the Derek Jeter Scholarship, which provides scholarship support for graduating high school seniors who demonstrate leadership in their community while promoting abstinence from drugs and alcohol.
