Scholarships
The Jim Cristy Swimming Scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to students who desire to participate in Kalamazoo County competitive swimming or learn-to-swim programs, but need financial assistance to do so.
Students who are Kalamazoo County residents or attend an elementary, middle or high school within Kalamazoo County are eligible to apply.
Must be recommended by a professional employee in their school system or a swimming instructor and meet academic eligibility standards for participation in athletics as defined by their school system (middle and high school students only). Must demonstrate financial need.
The completed application, a recommendation from a swimming coach or swimming instructor, and verification of income (first page of most recent income tax return) must be submitted to the Kalamazoo Community Foundation.
Award amounts vary depending on the financial need of the recipient. This scholarship is not renewable. However, former recipients may apply in succeeding years.
A competitive swim program is defined as a training curriculum with the goal of competing in swim meets with a club team, high school or college team.
A learn-to-swim program is defined as a set of classes designed to teach swimmers about technique and confidence at different levels/ages.
