The Kalamazoo Community Foundation is inviting Kalamazoo County nonprofits to apply for a grant from its LGBT Equality Fund. The submission deadline is March 28.
Fund Mission
The mission of the LGBT Equality Fund is to support Kalamazoo County nonprofits that promote equality and celebrate appreciation for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning community members who live, work and raise their families here.
Fund Priorities
The LGBT Equality Fund has four priorities:
- Advocate for human rights and equality to positively impact Kalamazoo County's LGBT community;
- Promote social justice and unity;
- Support activities that celebrate the rich social and cultural contributions of the LGBT community; and
- Strengthen organizations that serve the physical, health, social or emotional needs of the gay and transgender community.
Special consideration will be given to programs that impact:
- People of color
- Youth
- Families
- Transgender people
- Multiple generations
- Leadership development
Application Information
The first step in the application process is for nonprofits to submit a Letter of Inquiry (LOI) by Friday, March 28, 2014. Click here to download information about what the LOI must include.
Funding recommendations will be made by the LGBT Equality Fund Advisory Committee, which is comprised of a diverse group of community volunteers, and communicated to grantseekers by Friday, May 2, 2014.
The Community Foundation may award up to $24,000 in grants from the LGBT Equality Fund in 2014.
Nonprofit organizations recognized under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code or that have a fiscal sponsor that is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and provide services to the greater Kalamazoo community are eligible to apply for grants.
If a nonprofit's proposal is of interest to us, but does not align with the funding priorities of the LGBT Equality Fund, it may be recommended for funding from another fund of the Community Foundation.
