South Haven residents David and Kathy Kreager have expanded their family scholarship fund to include graduating high school seniors from South Haven High School.
The Kreagers established the scholarship at the Kalamazoo Community Foundation in 2001 to provide financial assistance to college-bound graduating high school seniors who have suffered the loss of a parent or parents through death or abandonment after infancy.
"I lost my dad when I was just 15," says Dave Kreager. "When I became an adult I really began to appreciate the impact that event had on my life and career."
Originally the scholarship was only for graduating high school seniors who lived or attended high school in Kalamazoo County.
"We’re now full-time residents of Casco Township," says Kathy Kreager. "So we want to make sure students from our local community have the support they need to be successful after high school."
Since the fund was established, 46 recipients have received almost $40,000 in scholarships from the fund.
